Gee's Bend Friday 4 Pm

A Change in Programming for Gee's Bend

Deep in Alabama, just south of Selma, lies a tiny African-American community that has remained almost completely insulated from the outside world since their enslaved ancestors became free men and women. Today, Gee's Bend has one road, 700 souls, and a remarkable tradition. Their stunning hand-stitched quilts have rightfully become iconic pieces of American folk art.
During this show you will hear quilters from Gee's Bend talk about their home and their quilting tradition as well as their personal stories.
This special show takes place in the Mary B. Martin Storytelling Hall at the International Storytelling Center. It lasts about 60 minutes.
