Description

Born and raised in Appalachia, Elizabeth Ellis is the descendant of a circuit-riding preacher who collected stories wherever he went. A professional storyteller for nearly five decades, she is a versatile teller of Appalachian and Texas folktales, stories of heroic American women, and personal narratives that many consider her best. Ellis is a recipient of the National Storytelling Network’s Lifetime Achievement and ORACLE Circle of Excellence Awards, as well as the John Henry Faulk Award from the Texas Storytelling Association. She is a “fan favorite” at ISC’s National Storytelling Festival, having performed at twenty-three Festivals, and was designated an American Masterpiece Touring Artist by the NEA. Ellis is the author of Prepare to Scare, From Plot to Narrative, Every Day a Holiday, and co-author of Inviting the Wolf In: Thinking About Difficult Stories.
“It was a breathtaking performance to witness. Elizabeth was so layered and magical and real. Her timing impeccable, her delivery effortless, her impact extraordinary.” —Ann Arbor Observer
