Collecting and Retelling Family Stories with Hannah Harvey
Thursday, October 1 • 9:30 am - 12:30 pm
Discover the art—and ethics—of collecting and sharing family stories in this interactive workshop. Whether you're preserving the memories of a long-ago ancestor or recording the experiences of a living relative, you'll learn practical approaches to oral history, family research, and archival storytelling. Explore the rewards and challenges of interviewing relatives, honoring elders, navigating differing perspectives, and respectfully retelling the stories of others. Come on your own or bring a family member or friend as you discover how storytelling can strengthen family connections and preserve meaningful legacies for future generations. Hannah Harvey holds a Ph.D. in Communication Studies with a specialization in Performance Ethnography. A founding collaborator on the Storytellers’ Legacy Project, Dr. Harvey writes and performs family stories and has delivered storytelling workshops at festivals and conferences across the U.S.
